A New Song…

Wanted to share…

Parentheses by Sara Beth Geoghegan

It just seems a little bit like everyone’s been benefiting so greatly, but not me. To my left and to my right, God is changing, moving lives, but it’s hazy here with me. And is it so wrong for me to ask, “When will I receive my bigger task? And then move from these sidelines to my frontline?”

There must be a reason for parentheses. This break where I’m feeling You’re not using me and if I could say one thing honestly, Lord it feels like I’m ready, but I’ve been wrong before. Oh I’ve been wrong…

And with all this idle time it seems I might just lose my mind, focusing on me. Where I should be, why I’m not, what people see, and is love the greatest part of me? And is it so wrong for me to ask, “Why are You holding back my bigger task when I feel so restless on these sidelines?”

There must be a reason for parentheses. This break where I’m feeling You’re not using me and if I could say one thing honestly, Lord it feels like I’m ready, seconds into minutes into hours into days. I’m reading, praying, meditating, making it more than a phase. Recognizing weaknesses, accepting the need to change, finding the reason…

There must be a reason. I know there’s a reason. But if I could say one thing honestly, Lord it feels like I’m ready, ready. There must be a reason for parentheses. This break where I’m feeling You’re not using me. And if I could say one thing honestly, Lord it feels like I’m ready, but use me when You’re ready…cuz I’ve been wrong before…oh I’ve been wrong before…I’ve been wrong before.

There must be. There must be.

(This song both echoes my cry and my hope)

My Day…

Just because it was an interesting day, I thought I’d give a rundown of all I did. 🙂

8:00 – woke up late…but still took my time getting ready. Made pancakes, got ready for the office. Internet wasn’t working…not sure why…

10:00 – went to a computer store IT City to look for Final Cut Express 4…but they weren’t open for another half an hour.

10:30 – Doctor visit again…he gave me more anti-biotics, as well as three other meds that are supposed to help get rid of whatever it is that I have…ick…

11:30 – arrive at the office. Financial work…balancing accounts…filling out forms…saying hello to some folks I haven’t seen in 4 weeks…

1:30 – leave work to go get some lunch. The place I wanted to go was closed, so then I decided to go find the Christian bookstore some people have told me about. Success…I found it…got two Thai worship CD’s…so exciting…and three small Bible stories (in Thai and English) so hopefully I can practice and learn the spiritual terms.

2:00 – back to the computer place…and they didn’t have the software I wanted…but I did find some fun little things that some friends had wanted back in the states. Again…success! 🙂

2:30 – went to Mac store to check on software, they were out of stock, but ordered it from somewhere else (I guess the store in Bangkok) and I can go pick it up tomorrow. Speedy…

3:00 – home and time for some chicken noodle soup…

3:10 – internet still not working…not sure why…but thought I’d try to figure it out. I tested out all I knew to do on my own.

Guess what!? I, for the first time by myself, actually solved a problem here! I called the internet service place and basically said in Thai “My internet is not feeling well,” since I didn’t know the right words. 🙂 At any rate, we got to the point that they would call me back on my cell-phone and we’d go from there. About 2 hours later, I got a call and an English speaking woman was on the other line, a relief. We did a few things, and she reset my connection. That was it. WOO HOO! I did it! No help from other people…that’s a success too. 🙂

One other small tidbit…I was walking around hearing all these people speaking around me in Thai and then a white man, I’m assuming American, walked by me and was talking with a Thai girl. I heard him say several profane words in 10 seconds of our passing. I thought…wow…it’s so nice that Thai’s do not swear much…like some American’s. Then I thought some more…it’s actually that I just don’t know what those swear words are. 🙂 Blissful ignorance.

Blessings on your day!

Snippets…

Here are a few little slices of this past month…busy busy busy. That’s all I have to say. Wonderful, tiring, busy…but wonderful. 🙂

Beautiful sky near the “Sticky Waterfall…”

We had fun…and got a little wet…but it was completely worth it to walk up and down the limestone waterfall…

My wonderful friend Heather. Heather and Anna serve together in the North-East (yet south of me…). This girl made me laugh more times than I can even count…

squid

At Sunday Walking Street…I don’t think I’ve ever posted a pic of these little guys…thought it would be fun. I see them all the time…kinda forget that it’s unusual. Funny how that works…when you become used to things around you. Here you can get an entire squid for only 60 baht…about 2 dollars. 🙂

The past month has been amazing…truly. I’ve been blessed to meet some wonderful new friends and also get some good training, have fun with kiddos, and have air-con 24-7. 🙂 Hehe!

I am still sick…not sure if I should go to the Doc again (for the third time in one month) or if I should just sit it out…that’s something you could lift up for me.

Hope your day is a joyful one!

Blessings!

This and That…

Just thought I would share a little bit more of what’s been going on here in Thailand…a little of this…a little of that…from a few weeks ago…and from now.

hmonggirls

Here I am in Chiang Klang with the Hmong girls from America…the youngest, 13, and the oldest 19, as well as their two adult leaders, the one in the red shirt is the pastor’s wife from their church in Milwaukee, Wisco. They were fun…and my co-worker and I, the only male in the photo, had a fun time playing with our equipment and the girls.

After the trip to the east of Thailand, Camp Buddy began. 77 kiddos…3rd to 12th graders…and about 23 counselors (all M’s on the field in this area). It was A BLAST! We had so much fun. I was able to be a counselor of two third grade girls, Abby and Gabi…and was neighbors with an M that I had met last year while in Cambodia. I also was able to be part of the media class being taught at the camp for the highschooler’s. My team-mate taught the class mostly, but I was able to help out in the photo department of it all. Also, a blast. Wouldn’t trade that experience for anything. Here are a few pics the students took under our teaching…and using our wonderful equipment. 🙂 I’m like a proud parent…

anna

This was a fun picture set-up my friend Anna and I made. She serves in East Thailand…south of here. We’ve become fast friends…as the picture could clearly show. 🙂 Fun times…

On to the present…FOCUS is a conference we are a part of right now…for M’s that have been on the field for less than a year but more than 5 months…so there are all the people in my region that went to my FPO (the two month training I went to last August). It’s been good so far…yesterday I missed most of the sessions simply because I’ve been sick…yes…still sicky. No fun at all…however I did go to the doctor again and got a supposably more powerful antibiotic…hope it works. 🙂

That should keep you all up to date…or at least sort of…at least a little more than before. After all these conferences…hopefully life will return to a semi-normal schedule…but with past experiences…who knows. 🙂 Loving life…and it’s spontaneity…and all the surprises that come along with it.

Blessings!

Aren’t You Supposed To Update This Thing More Frequently?…

Yes…yes you are. A blog…as this is usually defined…should be updated more often than say…once a month!? Yes…yes it should. 🙂 My deepest apologies…and I don’t have too much of an excuse…but…if you’ll just read further…you’ll find out a few reasons why I’ve not written recently.

First off…still sick. I went to the doc the other day, he said I have tonislitis, but it was a Thai doc so I’m not sure how accurate it is. After the trip to the mountains (where it was quite a bit cooler) I caught something…and it’s lingering. Then…Camp Buddy. SOOOOOO FUN! I got to work with elementary girls, got to work on the media team and teach highschool MK’s how to take pictures, met two other really great girls who serve in East Thailand. This week started a regional conference where I’m meeting up with several folks from my training in Richmond, and also folks I’ve met on other trips during my term. It’s been a blessing so far, worship time, learning sessions on Creation to Christ, and fun time with singles here on the field.

I’ll fill in more details in coming days…when I have a few more minutes to spare. Also, the days are full, and the internet is only in one room of the hotel….so needless to say…it’ll be a little bit. 🙂

One request…my Grandma’s husband has had some exploratory surgery…the doctor’s think he may have some kind of cancer. Right now, he’s in intensive care…please remember him as he’s healing, 78 (I think), and just having a bit of a hard time. He’s also a regular dialysis patient…which makes things that much harder. Ralph is a believer…and has such a sweet and kind heart.

Thank you for all your thoughts and pr-yers.

Blessings!
